Expanded polystyrene is produced from a mixture of about 90-95% polystyrene and 5-10% gaseous blowing agent, most commonly pentane. The solid plastic is expanded using steam.

EPS is used for a vast number of applications. However its major application is as a protective packaging for consumer electronic products and white goods.

This is a sample of a blue EPS bead moulded at a density of 34g/l.

We can mould our own pastel colours by adding a powdered colour aditive to the bead during the pre-foaming phase.
